this thing opened at around -250(i think)...was bet down in a day or two to around -175.....and i think that`s a bit low..a good deal low,imo..unless bernard gets old overnight....

i spent some time defending dlh`s legacy on another board....an excellent debate....but,i think that dlh is in over his head here...i remember dlh getting manhandled early in the vargas fight....inexplicably throwing the trinidad fight away..because he felt trinidad was stronger?.....was he afraid to stand in with the stronger guy?...generally,having trouble as he moved up in weight fighting the top tier guys....and,to me, that`s understandable...the guy started his career as a super featherweight..

now,he steps up as a full fledged middleweight(maybe a catch weight at 157),vs the best guy he has ever faced....the biggest guy he`s ever faced....the consumate boxer puncher....

i see this as a fight that hopkins has to be salivating for....beating dlh, regardless of the fact that the guy really isn`t a legit middleweight, should help him cement his legacy....you don`t get to fight higher profile guys than dlh.......

hopkins will be ready....as i said, unless father time sneaks up on bernard bigtime in the next 6 months,i think dlh is in over his head.....i expect him to get chopped down here....it should deteriorate as the fight moves into the mid to later rounds....dlh carrying more weight than he ever has....hopkins,with unbelievable stamina....even at this advanced age....still destrying top legit middleweights....and doing it with ease...taking little in the way of punishment....the taller, bigger, slicker guy....

i hate laying odds....and i hate having money tied up for months....but,-175 looks to low to me......

You want to laugh and be pissed at same time? The MGM opened Hopkins -115. Thats why I got bet down so much from -250 to -175. Comical. They also hung DLH -300 over Mosely when we opened DLH -130. We got bet up. What a perfect world. LOL.

-115?????.....lord,i`m living in the wrong neighborhood...lol....

actually,if i really felt brave.i`d have waited..a friend mentioned this to me....he said,"hopkins may struggle with strong legit middleweight robert allen while oscar does a "javier castillejo" type whitewash on sturm".... dropping the odds even further in june....

he may have a point....

if it drops again,i may play again...

The reason the MGM probably opened it at -115 is because the general public will be betting on Oscar. So if you want to bet Hopkins I dont think the odds will ever get too high. The public money will be going on Oscar. And by the way, the fight is at 158. Hopkins said he is OK with that because he isnt even coming in at 160 for his last few fights. He SAID that he told them he would do it at 154 if they wanted.

I think I like Oscar in this. As a matter of fact I'm pretty sure I do. I see what you guys are saying about Oscar not looking that great against a strong Vargas and that does concern me a little. However, I think you guys are putting Hopkins on too high of a pedastal. He hasnt done sh!t his whole career except beat Trinidad at a weight that wasnt Trinidads optimal fighting weight. Could that be the same case here with Oscar? Maybe.

He has broke the Middleweight title defense record by beating nobodys. As a matter of fact, his whole career he has fought nobodys with the exception of Jones who beat him.

Heres my theory in regards to Toney and Hopkins. They are two hard nosed really good fighters and could beat almost anybody in the world who is their size. However, if they fight a guy with serious speed they are in trouble. Oscar isnt Jones in regards to speed but I just wanted to throw that out there. Anyway, Hopkins is beatable.

I will offically hold off on my play until after their tuneup fights but here is why I like Oscar:

1) I think that he is the better and more talented boxer. His hand speed is what I will count on giving Hopkins some serious problems.

2) Oscar has way more experience at fighting world class opponents than Hopkins. He has been in there against the best in the world and I think that is a big factor - experience against A level fighters.

3) I think Oscar has a better corner than Hopkins.

I just think that Oscar is a better boxer than Hopkins. My only question is can he handle a strong hard nosed fighter with alot of resolve who will not quit coming at him until he breaks?
This is probably one of Oscars last fights and I think that he will go after this with alot of heart and determination. It wont be the same Oscar who fought Trinidad.

I think Oscar is the more skilled boxer and will hold back Hopkins with his hand speed and punch output. But he will have to throw ALOT of punches and use his offense as a defense to keep Hopkins off him. I say DLH takes him by points on this one. I think you guys think Hopkins has looked like an animal over the last few years and will be way too much for DLH. Why dont you think about who he has looked like an animal against? Yeah, he is a vicious fighter but not an awesome boxer.

If he fights an A level fighter I think he can get schooled. DLH will need to bring those great hand speed combinations with him that night and alot of them.

DLH takes him by points.

Another thing, I've seen both of these guys listed at different heights but I think they are both 5"11 so there wont be any size differential.

Something tells me that Oscar will be fighting this fight with a little fear which will bring out the best in him. I gotta feeling that when theyre in the ring the fear of Hopkins attacking him will make him a little scared and it will bring out his best stuff.

I know one thing though, if this fight materializes I will give both of my testicles to see it. It would be one hell of a fight. But with all the training camp "injuries" and all that stuff I'm not getting to riled up yet.

i guess we disagree on this one,A.......i think that HOPKINS is the better boxer..a master boxer....he can stand in front of dlh and make him miss and make him pay...i don`t think dlh has that ability......bernard has a more rounded repertoire....he uses both hands equally well...unlike dlh....and he`s the naturally bigger guy.....dlh won`t be looking down at him....may be looking up a bit....

i agree on hopkins` resume....can`t compare to dlh`s....but much of dlh`s best work was done at lightweight and welterweight....

i`m going on what i see with my own eyes here....hopkins is beautiful to watch,imo....varies his punching power...keeps touching guys...turning guys....lighter punches...heavier punches...up and down...and he`s defensively right below the toney`s of the world...a masterful defensive fighter...and he`s a very strong middleweight....not a monster puncher...strong physically....he looks thin...but,so did bob foster and alexis arguello...

as far as motivation,i think it all falls in hopkins` corner...oscar has been fighting big fight after big fight....if he wasn`t totally up for the mosely rematch, who`s he gonna get up for?...seems like he has to get up for to many big fights...

this is the big kahuna for hopkins.....dlh is the big kahuna for every fighter....the mother lode....hopkins beats oscar and he has wins over future h.o.f.`ers trinidad and dlh...the crowning achievement to his boxing legacy...

hopkins seems to get better with age....he says he wants to go 3 more years....

does he get old between now and september?...maybe....i`m not gambling on when a guy might get old....i have to go with what i`m seeing...

one thing worries me....i can see the dlh camp trying to postpone this several times....trying to,in effect,"age" hopkins even more..make him stale.....that`s worrisome....

but,as it stands right now,i`ll take hopkins...he looks as solid as ever...he`s bigger...slicker...uses both hands equally well...is better defensively...

and....he`s finally getting the attention that has eluded him for most of his career...oscar has spent his whole career basking in the limelight...

a loss to dlh destroys hopkins....not so dlh....

we agree to disagree...

If I had to choose a fighter in this bout, I would have to go with Hopkins. I would only feel comfortable with Hopkins after seeing each fighter in their last fight.

However, I believe that the "politics of boxing" could play a role in this fight if DLH manages to take the fight to the scorecards without absorbing lots of punishment. What I mean is this: if DLH can make it to the final bell in similar shape as was his condition in his last bout versus Mosley, I think that DLH has a great chance of coming away without a loss (draw, SD, or UD).

I feel that being the smaller guy helps DLH in the event this fight goes the distance because he may very well get the benefit of the doubt in many close rounds. And oftentimes in such high profile fights, the image of the fighters can be a deciding factor in who gets the nod. And it is very clear in the boxing world that Oscar has the better image.

These could be some of the reasons why there is not such a big gap in the opening odds. I do not see him knocking out Hopkins. But if Oscar can get past 12, he does have a shot at defeating Hopkins.

I was at the MGM today picking up ticks for the
Morales tilt. I also saw the the Olympic line and
could have scalped it pretty good. I have tied up my money before and fights have been postponed or cancelled outright. So today a
guy wearing a tie behind the counter at the MGM
relates to me MABEY this fight never happens.
Perhaps Oscar is PISSED that Tito will fight
Mosley and not him, so his does this because
he had his feathers ruffled. Or maybe not as
he does pull in 20,000 fans for a fight and it will be a PPV event. Hopkins may have trouble
with Allen as was also mentioned today. I kind
of hope to focus on lesser hyped fights I can WIN money on as I don't give a rats a** about
either one of those guys. It's about cashing
tickets more than anything to me.

The Mirage and/or Mandalay take big numbers.
Others also, but I KNOW the Mirage does.

Hopkins is way too stront for DLH.. Oscar is quick, but as he has moved up in weight he has problems more and more. Especially as the fight goes on, as we all have talked about before. I think he may come out and win the first or second round, but Hopkins is a veteran and a pro, and he lives for fights like this. For Oscar to win this fight, he will have to come forward and trade at some point, and thats when he will get in trouble. I am all over Hopkins in this one. I plan on laying down my biggest bet of the year on it no doubt.
